“Hockey Night LIVE! Summer Ice” features the “goal of the year” as the Islanders defeat the Avalanche 3-1. Although Kyle Okposo scored the go-ahead goal with only 3:17 left in the game, the highlight of the night was provided by Rob Schremp who caught and dropped a ricocheted shot by Frans Nielsen, and then used his stick like a baseball bat to drive a goal into the net.

Butch Goring weighs in on the game:

Butch Goring: I’ve seen a lot of crazy goals and I’ve seen a lot of goals when I can’t believe that actually happened and that play there was incredible hand-eye coordination and it wasn’t just a bunt, it was a line drive to the top hand corner… they went for the homerun.

(On Kyle Okposo): I talked about him all season long, about what a great competitor. He gives second, third, and fourth efforts, he’s always there, he is very physical, and he can score big goals and the great thing about this young hockey club, they have so many young guys who want to be the man, and they don’t fight over it but they are a very competitive and they continue to try and improve themselves in every which way and you’re right, Kyle Okposo surfaces a whole of the time.
