After finishing second in the 2010 games, the Americans have their sights set on the gold in Sochi. The Americans are returning 13 players from the silver-medal squad, including captain Zach Parise, Conn Smythe winner Patrick Kane and Vezina Trophy winner Ryan Miller.

Phil Kessel is the highest-scoring American on the team, with 31 goals and 34 assists in 60 games this season. Kessel brings lightning speed to an already-fast American team, while rugged captains David Backes and Dustin Brown bring the physical edge. Miller, who backstopped Team USA to the silver medal, is expected to compete with Stanley Cup Champion Jonathan Quick for the starting job. Either way, Team USA is strong in the crease.

The Americans draw into Group A, along with Russia, Slovakia and Slovenia, arguably the toughest preliminary group. Team USA kicks off their tournament against the Slovakians Thursday at 7:30 a.m. Eastern Standard Time.
