Anthem Singer Auditions: Nov. 22 from 4-7 pm at Coliseum

The New York Islanders are looking for the best singers in the metropolitan area to sing the National Anthem before games for the rest of the 2005-06 season and beyond. In search of the best, the Islanders will hold a rare open audition on Tuesday, November 22 at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum from 4:00 - 7:00 pm.

"It's time we opened up the selection process to every singer in the New York area and give them a chance," said Islanders director of game operations Matthew Coppola. "Every week I get dozens of requests from people who want the privilege of singing the anthem before Islander games. This is everyone's chance."

The Islanders have yet to say whether they hope to find just one singer who will be a regular staple at Islander games, or whether they will take the best 3, 4 or 5 singers and have a rotation. "We want to go into the audition with an open mind," said Coppola. "Simply put, we're looking for the best out there."

Call it American (Anthem) Idol, Islanders-style.
