Islanders prospects all across North America played key roles in victories this past week. Denver junior Rhett Rakhshani scored the game-winning goal in his team’s 4-3 victory over Minnesota-Duluth on Friday. Rakhshani totaled two goals and two assists in two weekend games. Matt Donovan scored two third-period goals to help Cedar Rapids defeat Omaha, 5-4, in overtime on Saturday. Donovan recorded two goals and two assists since returning from the USHL All-Star Game.

On Sarnia, Matt Martin scored the only goal in the Sting’s 1-0 win over Niagara on Friday. The following day, Justin DiBenedetto recorded four points in a 5-4 overtime win over Guelph. Also, Shane Sims scored the game-winning goal against No. 2 Notre Dame on Sunday. The win pushed Ohio State back into the NCAA tournament field with less than a month to play until conference playoffs begin.

Update: Day earned an assist in Colgate’s 3-2 overtime loss to Princeton on Friday. Colgate bounced back the next night with a 3-2 overtime win against Quinnipiac.

Update: DiBenedetto is tied for third in the OHL in points after recording a goal and three assists in Sarnia’s 5-4 overtime win against Guelph on Saturday. His 35 goals are tied for second in the league.

Update: After competing in the USHL All-Star Game, Donovan returned to the Cedar Rapids lineup and recorded four points (2g, 2a) over the next three games. On Saturday, he contributed two goals and an assist in a 5-4 overtime win against Omaha. Donovan scored two goals in the third period to even the score. The next day, Donovan earned an assist in a 5-4 win over Green Bay.

Rakhshani had one of his most productive weekends of his college career, scoring two goals and adding two assists. His first goal of the weekend proved to be the game-winner in Denver’s 4-3 win over Minnesota-Duluth on Friday. Rakhshani ranks second on the team in scoring.
