Farmingdale State College will have at least one permanent seat in the Blog Box and students from the College’s journalism program will contribute to an Islanders blog throughout the season.
“Blogs have become one of the most crucial mediums for people to communicate what’s on their minds, especially on college campuses,” said Islanders Vice President of Communications Josh Bernstein. “Our partnership with Farmingdale State College will give its students an opportunity to express their opinions of the Islanders on a real live stage. It’s a great venture for both Farmingdale and the Islanders because the students get real life journalism experience and the Blog Box gets access to bloggers with a fresh perspective.”
Added W. Hubert Keen, President of Farmingdale State College: "This partnership with the Islanders is an excellent opportunity to showcase the rapid progress of Farmingdale State College in so many key areas, and to have our students participate in Islanders activities that will enhance their real-world experience. Like the Islanders, Farmingdale State is important to the Long Island region, so we'll make good teammates."
The virtual Blog Box on newyorkislanders.com will be redesigned in the coming weeks while the physical Blog Box at the Nassau Coliseum will remain above Section 201.
Entering its second season, the NYI Blog Box was the first of its kind when it debuted in the summer of 2007. It offers fans the opportunity to follow the team through blogs they personally create. Bloggers receive press credentials to the Islanders post-game media availability sessions, but are allowed to retain their fandom while watching the game in the actual blog box.
