The event is set for Saturday, October 2 at the Nassau Coliseum from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.
Registration to enter a car is $35 and can be done in advance or on the day of the show. Guests not participating in the contest can purchase tickets for $20. All visitors will also receive a ticket to the Islanders pre-season game against the New Jersey Devils at 7 p.m. following the car show.
While the event promises to be fun for all in attendance, it is sponsoring a good cause. A portion of the proceeds will go to Life’s WORC, the Islander’s charity of the Oct. 2 game specializing in the care for those with mental disabilities.
"We manage 36 homes and 12 non-residential programs through out Nassau, Suffolk and Queens Counties, providing comprehensive support to people with developmental disabilities including mental retardation and autism,” said Mathew Zabatto, the Assistant Executive Director of Development & Public Affairs at Life’s WORC.
“Anytime we can establish a partnership, or develop support from new sources, it’s not only appreciated, but is very much needed to enhance our other fundraising efforts,” says Zabatto. Due to the economy, Life’s WORC has found it difficult to maintain the funds needed to support organization and the help of the New York Islanders and the All American Car Club is relief.
In addition, there will be a player appearance, food and various merchandise vendors selling t-shirts, model cars, and other memorabilia.
“When I heard the Islanders were having a car show I decided I should get in on it. It should be a nice turn out,” said Dennis Hines, a local vendor who has attended several car shows in the past.
The NYI Classic Car Show promises to be a family fun environment and provide an entertaining day for guests. “Car shows are family oriented. You can bring your kids out to see the spectacular cars,” said Hines.
