The National Hockey League announced today that Frans Nielsen has been named Third Star of the Week for the period ending October 26.
Nielsen scored a point in all three Islanders games last week, helping the club to a 2-1-0 record. The Herning, Denmark, native capped off his five-point (four goals, one assist) week with his first career hat trick Saturday against the Dallas Stars.
Now in his ninth season with the Islanders, Nielsen is on a point-per-game pace through eight games with four goals and four assists. He had a career year last season, posting career highs in goals (25), assists (33) and points (58).
The Islanders selected Nielsen in the third round (87th overall) of the 2002 NHL Draft. In 455 career games with the Islanders, he has 262 points (89 goals, 173 assists).
