The 2011-12 version of the NHL GameCenter Application, powered by NeuLion, is better than ever before. For the first time, fans can choose their favorite team to get them up-to-the-minute updates wherever they are. Not only will the application brand every page for them with the Islanders logo, it will be customized specifically for the Islanders fan.
“Branding the application to your favorite team is one of the best features of this year’s version of the GameCenter App,” Islanders Senior Vice President Michael Picker said. “Now, all of our fans, wherever they are, can be dialed in to our franchise with the touch of a button. As long as they have cell phone service or internet connection, they’ll know everything they need to know about the Islanders in the palm of their hand.”
Whether you’re on the go or just lounging at home, getting your Islanders news is easier than ever before. The home screen of the NHL GameCenter App on your mobile device will showcase a list of that day’s NHL matchups. Scroll down to select the Islanders and you’ll be able to see everything you ever wanted about that night’s matchup.
The first page brings you directly to the Season Series, which will show you all the vital Islanders (and their opponent’s) statistics from the 2011-12 season, including games played, goals, assists, points, +/- rating, penalty minutes, power play goals and game-winning goals.
The head-to-head tab of the application breaks down statistics between the Islanders and whichever team they’re playing that night, so you can judge which team has the best probability to win if they score first, who has scored more power play goals and which team has more blocked shots, just to name a few.
“Our fans, fans everywhere, want what they want, when they want it, how they want it,” the Commissioner of the National Hockey League, Gary Bettman, told Mike Francesa on his radio show last week. “So whatever the device is wherever you are, if there’s a game on and you want a highlight or you want to have it (send notifications) every time your favorite team scores a goal, (the NHL GameCenter Application) will do it for you.”
If the schedule is what you’re looking for, go back to the home page and click on the second tab. The Islanders full 2011-12 regular season schedule will immediately appear on your screen, with home games highlighted in orange and away games highlighted in grey.

By clicking on a future game, the App will tell you what time the matchup starts. By clicking on a past game, the App will show you the final score and give you the option to watch highlight videos from that night’s game.
The third tab from the home page brings you to all your Islanders videos that you can find if you visit Islanders TV. That includes the “Isles Files,” “What’s New,” and “40 Years of Islanders History.” Click on the tab of your choosing and you can browse some of the most recent videos in each category.
The fourth and final tab is “News.” With this tab, you can read all the latest stories written by the team, about the team so you are in touch with all the latest information, right from the source, the Islanders themselves. By clicking on “League,” you’ll get all the latest news stories about all 30 NHL teams.
Twitter is another main source of news so there’s one tab that lets fans see the NHL’s real-time Tweets in one feed, all 30 NHL club’s Tweets in a second feed, all Islanders Tweets in a third feed and finally an all NHL player feed so you can see how the pros eat, sleep and dream hockey 24/7.
The premium version of the NHL GameCenter Application is enhanced with live video feeds, video highlights and condensed highlights.
Many fans will choose to upgrade to NHL GameCenter Live for a small fee, which will allow fans to watch live feeds of NHL games throughout the entire season. It’s as easy as clicking on the ear phones or TV screen icons, where you can pick from game broadcasts, home or away.
“We may be the most advanced (sports) league as it relates to video,” Bettman told Francesa. “We had historically been underserved by traditional media so (developing an application) became more important. To me, the fascinating thing about being in sports… If you have a smart phone or an iPad or its equivalent, you can watch games virtually anywhere you want.”
There it is; everything you need to know about your favorite team fits in the palm of your hand with the NHL GameCenter Application for your mobile device.
