As we move into August, the Islanders Summer I.C.E. Tour continues to bring fun and thrills to young people throughout Long Island. On Sunday, the Tour stopped at Newbridge Arena in Bellmore for another successful Rink Day. With the sun shining bright outside, the action was hot inside for more than 100 kids who came down to get the experience of a lifetime.
The day started with youth hockey players from the surrounding south shore area registering in for a fun-filled day of ice hockey drills. Before the kids entered into the arena, they were able to participate in many interactive games and had a chance to meet Islanders defenseman Chris Campoli and Islanders goalie Joey MacDonald. Both players were on hand outside with the I.C.E. Tour, signing autographs and taking pictures with everyone in attendance.

Once the program started, Campoli and MacDonald were on ice running various drills with the participants. Campoli worked on the shooting station. He gave all the kids pointers on different shooting techniques. "This is my second rink day this week and I am having a great time,” Campoli said. “I enjoy coming out into the Long Island community and working with the youth hockey players giving them pointers on how to improve their game. It looked like all the kids had a good time today and I was happy to be a part of it." On the opposite side of the ice, MacDonald was giving tips to the all the goalies in attendance. "This is my first event in the Long Island community,” MacDonald said. “I had a great time working with the goalies today. I look foward to the rest of my week here on Long Island and getting to meet all the fans.” Bridgeport Sound Tigers Assistant Coach Pat Bingham was also on hand to take part in the event. Bingham worked on ice with the kids, and also ran a coaching clinic for parents and youth hockey coaches in attendance. Bingham spoke about the development of youth hockey players and his coaching style.
