New York Islanders - Your #Isles40th favorite moments

by Staff Writer / New York Islanders
Well, to start I have had so many fantastic memories at the Nassau Coliseum.  I am 30 years old and have been a lifelong fan of the NYI’s!  My father had season tix for several years in the mid 90’s and I have witnessed the up’s and downs with this team, no matter what I will always be a diehard Isles fan.

After attending at least a few hundred games here is my greatest isles fan moment.  My father had taken me to the 93 playoff game, when the Isles beat the Capitals in the 2 OT by a goal from Ray Ferraro!  Well, we were sitting in Section 123 which you know is right next to the Zamboni entrance & exit.

If I remember I think we were in either row 3 or row 4 and in the two seats next to the railing.  After Ray Ferraro scored his famous 2nd OT game winning goal against the caps the crowd was insane, as well as the celebration on the ice.  Either the Capitals goalie or defenseman in anger shot the puck down the length of the ice towards the Zamboni entrance.  When the ice crew opened up the boards to get on the ice, the puck was sitting on the edge of the ice by the boards.  The security guard who was stationed at that section picked up the puck and handed it to me!  I was a 12 year old who was on top of the world with the Isles win, and now holding that puck in my hand fresh with ice on it.  I am now 30 and still smile with great memories when I think or tell this story.  To this day I still have that puck in my possession, and I have a piece of paper taped on it that says “RAY FERERRO OT WINNER, 1993!”

So that is my story!  I never thought I would have the chance to share it with anyone, but this was the perfect forum to do so!  Thanks for the opportunity to share an Islanders memory I will never forget!
