Net One For Nicholas

by Stephanie Schuyler / New York Islanders

On Saturday, Feb. 2, Islanders’ mascot Sparky the Dragon and five local youth hockey teams made their way to Islanders Iceworks to participate in the Net One for Nicholas Tournament. The event was hosted to support Nicholas Pedone, a 7-year-old from Glen Cove fighting Neuroblastoma. With help from the community and the Islanders, $5,000 was raised for the Pedone family.

Nicholas was diagnosed with the rare disease in November of 2012 and has undergone aggressive treatments since. Just months into the tough road he and his family will endure, the community has shown support to this sports-loving second grader by fundraising and helping to raise awareness of the disease. The tournament’s participants included the Nassau County Whalers, Nassau County Predators, The Edge, The Rinx, Iceworks and the Sparky the Dragon.
