The Official Site of the New York Islanders

It was a horrific scene in Atlanta last night after Islanders defenseman Mike Mottau took a Zach Bogosian wrist shot to the face. Mottau immediately fell to the ice, clutching his face as he was cut above and below his right eye.

Mottau was taken to the hospital and stayed in Atlanta last night for precautionary reasons.  Due to tremendous pressure that has built up in and around his right eye, Mottau will remain in Atlanta until further notice.
The team has received tremendous outreach from numerous fans and appreciate the concern.  Your get-well wishes have been passed along to both Mike and his family.
