Tanner Fritz has played a lot of hockey in Columbus, OH, just not a lot at Nationwide Arena.
Instead, Fritz played four years of college hockey at Ohio State University, where he recorded 110 points (36G, 74A) in 142 games and captained the team in his senior year. Fritz has a lot of fondness for The Schottenstein Center (OSU's rink) and the city of Columbus itself. He trains at OSU in the summers, met his wife Brandy, who is an Ohio native, at school, and plans to make Columbus their offseason home.
"I loved it here, I had a great time, I love the city of Columbus," Fritz said. "I'm moving back here this summer. Me and my wife are going to have our first kid. It's pretty much my home now."
Between the in-laws and college buddies, Fritz should have a nice cheering section when the Isles take on the Blue Jackets. He's looking forward to playing a pro game in his adopted hometown.
"It's pretty cool. This will be my first experience here," Fritz said. "We maybe played here once in college, but to get my first NHL game here… it'll be a pretty exciting day and I'm looking forward to it."
