Morning Skate Updates: 3/17/15

by Cory Wright / New York Islanders

Halak DTD: Jaroslav Halak is day-to-day with a lower-body injury. Kevin Poulin was recalled from the Bridgeport Sound Tigers.

Visnovsky DTD: Lubomir Visnovsky remains day-to-day with a lower-body injury. The Islanders will go with same defensive pairings from Saturday’s game.

Capuano on Injuries:
Everyday there’s something, but we have to get through this. There are a lot of key guys out of our lineup; especially two defensemen and Jaro now too. We have to stay the course, play fundamental hockey. That’s all we can preach to our guys and play the right way and give other guys an opportunity.

Neuvirth Starts: Michal Neuvirth will start in goal tonight for the Islanders. Neuvirth is coming off a 27-save performance against the Montreal Canadiens and is 1-1-1 in three games with the Islanders.

Strome In, Grabner Out: Ryan Strome draws back into the lineup after sitting out one game. Michael Grabner will come out of the lineup.

12 josh bailey 91 John Tavares 21 Kyle Okposo
86 Nikolay Kulemin 51 Frans Nielsen 26 Tyler Kennedy
27 Anders Lee
29 Brock Nelson 18 Ryan Strome
17 Matt Martin
53 Casey Cizikas 15 Cal clutterbuck

The Islanders are in Chicago tonight and play gets underway at 8:30 p.m. eastern time. Tonight's game is on MSG+2. Channel Finder

Vs. the Hawks:
The Islanders are 8-2-2 in their last 12 games against the Blackhawks, but are 0-2-1 in their last three trips to United Center.

Kid Line:
Jack Capuano is reuniting Anders Lee, Brock Nelson and Ryan Strome, a.k.a the Kid Line.

The Islanders penalty kill has been perfect over the past seven games, killing off 23 straight penalties overall.

Capuano on the team’s offensive slump:
It’s going to come and it’s going to come in bunches when it happens. It happened on early on in the year when we were on the California trip. I just look at our scoring chances, the amount of shots we are throwing on goaltenders and what we are giving up. To me guys are getting opportunities and that’s the big thing.

Crawford Starts:
Corey Crawford will start in goal tonight for the Blackhawks. Crawford is 5-0-1 in his last six contests and the Blackhawks have allowed two-or-fewer goals in each of their past five games.

Marian Hossa has five points (two goals, three assists) in his last five games.
