10:45: Optional skate this morning for the Islanders. Rangers practice at their facility, so just the visiting team here this morning.
10:56: Frans Nielsen headed out to skate
11:20: There's a good number of guys participating in the optional skate this morning, but we'll get you some info on everything going on this morning shortly.
11:25: Nabokov first off the ice. Looks like he'll get the nod between the pipes tonight.
11:40: Capuano just said Boulton is in the lineup tonight. More quotes from Cappy, Matt Martin, Colin McDonald and maybe others later.
11:53: Capuano, on if Islanders-Rangers ever gets stale: "No. It's a big rival. It's great for the fans and the media, and all the guys involved. But for us, it's a divisional game. We just have to make sure that we're ready to play and go out and win shift by shift, period by period."
11:55: Matt Carkner is out with a lower body injury. Capuano will make a game-time decision on how the defense shakes out. Joe Finley is the extra d-man, with Radek Martinek on IR.
11:57: Capuano said he expects Lubomir Visnovsky, who passed his physical this morning, at practice tomorrow.
12:00: Colin McDonald, on tonight's expectations: "It's my first time playing this game, so I'm not sure exactly what to expect. But I understand it's going to be an intense game and a good atmosphere. This rivalry extends down to the American League with Bridgeport and Connecticut. We've had some pretty tough battles this year against the Whale. These are the games that are easy to get up for. These are the games you really want to play. This should be fun."
12:04: McDonald, on his role tonight: "The coaches reminded me to keep doing what I've been doing, getting under the other team's skin. I think last game I did a pretty good job of that. It's a new role for me, so the coaches have been good making sure I'm doing what they're looking for. Whatever I need to do for them to keep me in the lineup, that's what I'm going to do."
12:07: Matt Martin, on tonight: "I think these are the ones when your career is done, that you look back on and say were the most fun. They're easy to get up for. It's always fun to beat these guys. We've got to come out of the gate hot tonight and be ready for an intense game."
12:09: More from Martin: "They're always physical games when it's against a division rival. We're in a pretty rough division. We've just got to be prepared mentally for a physical game and do whatever it takes to get the points tonight."
12:11: John Tavares: "It's a big game for both teams, and because of the rivalry on top of that. It's the first one of the year between us, so I'm sure it'll kick off right where it ended last year."
12:12: Tavares: "Physically, emotionally, there will be a lot of ups and downs. The crowd is always really into it, so you've got to do a good job of controlling your emotions. We always want to play a physical game, but we know that's part of their game as well, so we've got to be ready for that."
12:13: Tavares, on rebounding from two straight losses: "We have to realize how important these games are. Lulls we've had the last couple of years have hurt our season and our opportunity to push for the playoffs. We have an understanding of that work ethic and that attitude that's made us successful in the games that we've won, and we need to bring that more consistently and find ways to win when we're not playing as well or not getting the results we want. It's important we recognize that, and treat this like a must-win. We've got to be a desparate hockey team."Check NewYorkIslanders.com tonight for live updates throughout the matchup.
