Wild acquire Mattias on waivers

The Minnesota Wild have claimed winger Mattias Weinhandl off waivers from the Islanders. Weinhandl was in his third season with the Islanders and appeared in 53 games. He recorded two goals and four assists for six points and 14 penalty minutes.

The Islanders selected Weinhandl in the third round (78th overall) in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft. He played in a total of 155 games for the Islanders, recording 16 goals and 33 assists for 49 points and 50 penalty minutes.
