Military Appreciation Night Saturday

by Cory Wright / New York Islanders
They risk their lives every day defending our borders and protecting our freedom abroad. It’s a job only America’s bravest and most capable are able to do and they do it so that we can live a life of prosperity and peace. To show our appreciation for their bravery and dedication, the New York Islanders and Northrop Grumman are proud to be teaming up to honor United States military personnel on Saturday night against the Washington Capitals in their annual Military Appreciation Night.

Military Appreciation Night, presented by Northrop Grumman, will pay respects to America’s servicemen as well as entertain the fans. Among the special happenings Saturday, Miss USO, Heidi-Marie Ferren, will perform “God Bless America,” fire trucks and military vehicles will be displayed around the concourse and a special ceremonial puck drop will take place at 7 p.m.

As another thank you, military members are offered a 50 percent discount on box office tickets all season long, excluding Rangers games. Through the Islanders Inspire, 600 tickets were given to military personnel for Saturday’s game.

Autographed Islanders military pucks will be sold on the concourse during the game for $20 with the proceeds benefiting the Islanders Childrens Foundation. All pucks will be autographed by your favorite Islanders players, but will be wrapped to hide the identity of the Isles star who signed. The Long Island Red Cross will also be on the concourse sponsoring its Holiday Mail for Heroes  program. To learn more, visit gate 17 before or during the game.

The players will wear special camouflage-print jerseys during Saturday’s pregame warm-ups. The jerseys will be autographed and auctioned off on newyorkislanders.com. All season, the team has honored returning combat veterans through a variety of in-game recognitions such as Matt Moulson’s Wounded Warrior initiative and Matt Martin’s Defending the Blue Line. Those veterans get treated to a full VIP experience at Islanders games, including great seats and a chance to meet the players.

On Saturday, the Islanders will go further to recognize America’s finest, by recognizing veterans who received the Purple Heart after being wounded in action.

Come down to Nassau Coliseum on Saturday night to honor and show your support for the United States military and enjoy the excitement that is New York Islanders hockey. Events begin around 5:30 p.m. with faceoff at 7:00 p.m.
