More than 100 fans gathered outside of the Islanders Team Store at the Westfield Sunrise Mall in Massapequa to meet Islanders defenseman Freddy Meyer on Thursday night.  Meyer met with fans, posed for pictures and signed autographs for everyone on hand.

“I just finished my first year of junior hockey in Hauppauge,” said 10-year-old Matthew Fedgo of Setauket.  “I’m a defenseman as well, so I really look up to him.”

Some of the fans in the crowd are regulars to Islanders Team Store signings and looked forward to meeting Meyer at the latest signing.

“I’ve already met Jeff Tambellini and Josh Bailey so far this summer,” said Megan Kanes of Hicksville.  “All of the signings I have been to have been a lot of fun and Freddy Meyer was really nice.”

It’s been an exciting week for Meyer, who is enjoying getting back out in the community after missing most of last season with an injury.

“It was nice getting back out into the community and meeting with the fans on a one-to-one basis,” Meyer said.  “I was hurt most of last season so it’s been a long off season for me.  I just can’t wait to get back onto the ice.”
