MEET THE NEW GUY: ROLOSON

by Staff Writer / New York Islanders
What were your initial reactions to signing with the Islanders?

I’m excited on two aspects for both my family moving into a great area and for my career.  I’m really looking forward to settling in here and having a really good season.

What was the experience like playing in the Stanley Cup Finals with Edmonton in 2006?

I try to forget it now since we didn’t win the whole thing (jokingly).  I was traded at the deadline from Minnesota but coming into Edmonton was great.  The change of scenery I felt really helped me and having the group of guys welcome me the way they did made it easy to play.  I had the opportunity to play in a great city that supported the team throughout the whole Stanley Cup run.  The way that they reacted was incredible and it actually helped our team gel and create chemistry, which led to much of our success.

Talk a little about your relationship with Doug Weight who spent the majority of his career in Edmonton but left before your arrived.

I know Doug from playing against him so much in the past.  We’ve had a few of the same trainers in the past so we swap stories and have fun.  I’ve gotten to know him a little better since arriving here and I am looking forward to watching him do the same to opposing goalies.

Any player go out of their way to welcome you to the team?

I played with Richard Park a lot in Minnesota and also Andy Sutton.  Richard and I have always been friends and touch base with one another every once in a while so I spoke to him a bunch when I first signed.  The transition from Edmonton has been great and I’m looking forward to the season starting.

What have you done over the summer to take you mind off of the game?

My kids play a lot of sports and in the winter-time, playing on the west coast, it makes it hard to attend their events due to the travel.  They’re really active, playing four sports in the summer.  I coached them both in soccer over the past few months and found some time to play some golf as well.  I also went on a trip with a few buddies of mine to Pebble Beach, which was a lot of fun.

What player did you idolize?

Alan Bester was my favorite player.  He played the majority of his career with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

What was your welcome to the NHL moment?

Posting a shutout in my first NHL game was a memorable experience.
