Following a competitive tryout Saturday at Islanders Iceworks, the 2008-09 Islanders Ice Girls Team is set. The 12-girl squad consists of nine returning members and three newcomers. Auditions were run by Islanders Vice President of Game Operations and Events Tim Beach, Ice Girls Coach Linda Beach, and Ice Girls Choreographer Phyllis Montalvo.
"We had some very difficult choices to make this year," said Tim Beach. "I'm confident we came out with the best squad for the upcoming season. We look forward to introducing the girls at the Islanders' pre-season game against the Devils on October 1st."
Returning members include Samantha, Valerie, Brittany, Sasha, Sage, Kelly, Kristy, Chanel, and Kelli; while Danielle, Lauren and Darci will make their Ice Girls debuts in October.
"It's really exciting to be back," said Brittany. "This will be my fourth year as an Ice Girl. There's nothing more exciting than being able to interact with fans at the Coliseum and all over Long Island."

From interacting with fans during the game, to visiting local hospitals, the Islanders Ice Girls represent the Islanders organization all year round and all over the Island.
The Islanders Ice Girls have made such an impact on the game, that many other NHL teams have started similar programs.
"It's a tribute to all of the work these ladies have brought to the ice and community knowing that we were the first NHL ice girl squad and so many NHL teams have followed our shining example," said Linda Beach."
