Fueled by the success of Tuesday night's event and subsequent coverage in today's Newsday and elsewhere, night two of the Islanders Meet, Greet and Select-A-Seat topped night one by a significant margin as more than 2,000 fans flocked to the Nassau Coliseum to chat with Islanders players and management.
"This is like no other experience I've ever had, and may never have again," said Brett Kallner from Roslyn Heights.
As billed, Garth Snow and Ted Nolan again were back for the second night in a row. Miroslav Satan, Arron Asham and Bruno Gervais were in the Islanders' locker room to meet fans. Rick DiPietro, Mike York and Mike Dunham were tonight's surprise guests.
"I didn't know if I'd be able to make it because we visted hospitals today after practice and then I had a meeting at the Coliseum," said DiPietro. "But my meeting ended just as fans were getting ready to enter the executive offices, so I was happy to stick around and hang with the fans. Getting to meet the fans in a setting like this is a unique experience and it's the least we could do to get to know them a little better."
"It was great to see this side of the Coliseum," said Michael Solomon from East Meadow. "I've never been down here. For those who didn't make it tonight, it was a great opportunity. Teams don't let you come and meet the players and walk through the locker rooms. I hope the Islanders consider doing this again, and if they do, everyone should take advantage of it."
Fans also had the opportunity to speak with FSN analyst Billy Jaffe. The fans had a wonderful time talking hockey with one of the finest young color commentators in the game.
