Martinek injury update

by Staff Writer / New York Islanders
The Islanders have confirmed from a Czech Republic team representative that defenseman Radek Martinek was released last night from a hospital in Slovakia. He suffered a concussion from a hit by Arturs Kulda of Latvia.

After the first period hit, Martinek was unconscious for a brief period of time and was taken from the ice at the Orange Arena in Bratslavia to a local hospital. He was conscious through the trip to the hospital and through testing.

Martinek does not have any injuries to his neck or spine, but is still experiencing headaches. He will not return for the remainder of the tournament.

Kulda has been suspended for three games.
