Live Updates - Islanders vs. Penguins

7:00 p.m. - Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum - Uniondale, NY

Pre-Game
Evgeni Nabokov gets the start tonight. Joe Finley is in for Thomas Hickey on defense. Pittsburgh has won 10 straight heading into tonight.

1st Period
3:31: Matt Martin and Craig Adams drop the gloves at center ice, and that one was over by the time it started. Matt Martin with a quick flurry to earn the W.

4:00: Islanders have controlled the play, and the shots are 5-0 in their favor. No idea how Frans Nielsen didn't score on a rebound opportunity that rolled away from Tomas Vokoun. Frans pushed it across the crease with the netminder out of position. Still 0-0.

7:25: Stoppage in play. Adams just left the penalty box to head down the hallway to the room.

7:46: Mark Streit gets the Islanders on the board 1-0. One-timer from high in the zone went high glove on Vokoun. Straight off a faceoff. Matt Carkner and Frans Nielsen got the assists. First point of the year for Carkner.

11:14: Islanders still lead 1-0, with a 12-0 advantage in shots. Vokoun is definitely getting his cardio in tonight. TV timeout - he skates to the bench for a towel and water, while Nabokov does lower body stretches to the right of his crease.

12:53: James Neal welcomes Evgeni Nabokov to the game with Pittsburgh's first shot from the high slot. No danger for the veteran goalie.Shots: NYI 12 PIT 1

19:04: We have the game's first penalty. Matt Martin gets two minutes for holding. Shots: NYI 14 PIT 3.

End 1st: Isles PK looking pretty good. 1:05 remaining on the minor, but we reach intermission with a 1-0 home team lead and a 14-3 shots advantage.

2nd Period
18:55: Martin tlies out of the box, the the Pittsburgh power play is 0-for-1. Couple of distance shots from Matt Niskanen, but nothing too dangerous.

8:11: Joe Vitale snipes one from the left circle to tie it at 1-1. A turnover at the Islanders blue line led to the chance. He tucked it just inside the elbow to Nabokov's glove side.

14:01: McDonald with a slapper on a loose puck but Vokoun absorbs the shot. Shots: NYI 23 PIT 13. Much more balanced this period.

17:18: Josh Bailey re-establishes the Islanders lead; 2-1. Kyle Okposo played keep away, and eventually Travis Hamonic took a shot from the point that hit some traffic. Vokoun made a save on John Tavares in front, but the rebound went to the left side for Bailey, who finished the job.

19:46: Chris Kunitz scores on a wrister from the high slot, and Nabokov probably wants that one back. Went in off his pads. Sidney Crosby and Pasca Dupuis with the assists on a breakout play. 2-2 now.

End 2nd: NYI 2 PIT 2. Shots: NYI 28 PIT 17.

3rd Period
1:46: Brandon Sutter scores on a one-timer to give Pittsburgh a 3-2 lead. He and Matt Cooke attacked on a 2-on-1, and Cooke's pass went between the defenseman and Nabokov. Sutter was in pretty close range when he put it in.

2:40: Lubomir Visnovsky just celebrated what he thought was a goal on a shot from the left side, but was ruled off the post behind Vokoun. Still 3-2 Penguins, though Viz seemed pretty sure that was in.

14:08: With 20 seconds remaining on an Islanders power play, Josh Bailey goes to the box for interference. Brief 4-on-4 followed by a Pittsburgh PP.
