Live Updates - Islanders vs. Panthers

5:00 p.m. - Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum - Uniondale, NY

Evgeni Nabokov gets the start tonight. Thomas Hickey is back in on D for Joe Finley. Jacob Markstrom in net for the Panthers.

Islanders in the black third kits tonight.

1st Period
4:19: First penalty is on the board. Filip Kuba gets called for tripping behind the Panthers goal line. Florida's PK is ranked 30th in the league.

6:05: Great puck movement for a long time leads to an Andrew MacDonald PPG from the right side. He really got something into that shot. Frans Nielsen and Kyle Okposo get the assists, but all five players on the second unit touched the puck about half a dozen times apiece. Islanders lead 1-0.

7:24: Isles are going right back to the job. Tyson Strachan heads to the box after some extra-cirriculars in front of Markstrom involving Colin McDonald.

8:10: Brad Boyes gets a pretty good crack at one on a redirect from the top of the zone. Markstrom covers it up and it's still 1-0. Shots: NYI 7 FLA 1.

9:24: Nothing the second time around on the power play, even though it showed some promise early on.

11:30: A good rush up the ice and Frans Nielsen fires through a screen, but it clangs off the post. Still 1-0 home team.

19:28: Mark Streit stopped on a wrist shot from the left side. Great pressure again by the Isles, who had the puck in the Florida zone for what seemed like half the period, playing keep away.

End 1st: NYI 1 FLA 0. Shots: NYI 13 FLA 4. Over the last two games the Islanders have outshot opponents 27-7 in the first period.

2nd Period
0:36: Matt Carkner gets a VIP escort to the penalty box. Interference is the call. First PP of the day for Florida.

3:42: Scrum in front of Nabokov, but he holds onto the puck, keeping the 1-0 lead in tact. Shots: NYI 13 FLA 11. Panthers have 7-0 edge in shots this period.

10:44: It's MARVEL Day here at NVMC, with special guests Spider-Man and the Green Goblin. Sitting a row behind the action, Goblin just videobombed the contest they were doing with a fan a minute ago. Silly goblin. I'm hoping they have a video of this for later.

15:10: Markstrom with a beauty of a save on Colin McDonald in the high slot. Shots are tilted back in the Islanders favor at 22-14.

End 2nd: NYI 1 FLA 0. Shots: NYI 24 FLA 16. Mark Streit with one last chance before the horn, but no dice.

3rd Period
3:41: Cats will get a chance to tie this at MacDonald is going away for a holding minor. Panthers are 0-for-1 tonight. Shots: NYI 25 FLA 16.

5:24: Fleischmann with a wraparound, but Nabokov with the save.

5:41: Isles kill that one off. Still 1-0. Two shots on goal for the Panthers there as we're back to full strength.

8:01: Green Goblin just made another appearance on the score board. He's officially become my favorite comic book villain of all time. If the Islanders win tonight, I'm putting in a formal request to have him at every game from here on out. Super entertaining.

10:30: No idea how Josh Bailey didn't just score. He took a feed in the crease and looked to have all the open net in the world, but Markstrom kicked out his pad to cut off the angle just in time. Still 1-0 Isles. Shots: NYI 32 FLA 20.

14:37: TV timeout. Nabokov still holding onto this shutout bid. He's faced 23 shots tonight. Markstrom has been pretty darn good at the other end with 31 stops. The score is 1-0, but either team could conceivably have 3 or 4 right now.

17:20: For anyone interested, the Isles have outshot the Panthers 9-7 in the third period so far.
