Lineup Notes/Changes: Thomas Vanek, Michael Grabner and Radek Martinek draw in for the Islanders. Brock Nelson, Eric Boulton and Aaron Ness are out tonight, as head coach Jack Capuano emphasizes a veteran lineup in Pittsburgh.

Vanek Back:
Thomas Vanek is back in the lineup for the first time since Nov. 9 (five games) and will skate on the top line with John Tavares and Kyle Okposo.

Back-to-Back: The Islanders kick off their fifth set of back-to-back games this season. The Islanders are 4-3-1 in back-to-back sets and swept their last set against Ottawa and Boston.

Isles Starters: Martin-Cizikas-McDonald, MacDonald-Hamonic, Poulin in goal.
Penguins Starters: Dupuis-Malkin-Neal, Niskanen-Engelland, Zatkoff in goal.


1st Period:
0:40 - The top line presses early, but can't convert on some quality chances.

2:54 - PIT PP (Peter Regin - Two Minutes Concealing Puck)

4:04 - PIT PP goal. Chris Kunitz finishes a tic-tac-toe play from Evgeni Malkin and Sidney Crosby. 1-0 Penguins

4:41 - PIT PP (Thomas Vanek - Two Minutes Interference) Pens PP 1-1.

7:42 - PIT PP (Travis Hamonic - Two Minutes Hi-Sticking) Pens PP 1-2.

7:55 - PIT PP goal. Chris Kunitz fires a one-timer high-glove side off a three-on-two rush. The goal is Kunitz's second of the period. 2-0 Penguins.

16:28 - NYI PP (Deryk Engelland - Two Minutes Roughing)

18:50 - Chris Kunitz puts one past Poulin, but the goal is called back because of a delayed penalty to Evgeni Malkin.

18:50 - NYI PP (Evgeni Malkin - Two Minutes Hi-Sticking) Isles PP 0-1.

19:20 - Pierre-Marc Bouchard gets two minutes for hooking Craig Adams on a shorthanded breakaway. 4-on-4 to end the period and start the second.

END OF PERIOD: Islanders trail 2-0. Shots tied 13-13.

2nd Period:
1:46 - NYI GOAL! Thomas Vanek scores in his first game back from injury. A one-timer from the dot beats Zatkoff. Assists go to Kyle Okposo and Radek Martinek. 2-1 Penguins.

3:11 - NYI PP (Matt Niskanen - Two Minutes Roughing) Isles PP 0-2.

5:42 - Poulin flashes the leather and freezes the puck, slowing down the Pens momentum.

6:25 - PIT goal. Evgeni Malkin breaks a 15-game goalless drought. Buries a James Neal feed. 3-1 Penguins.

10:00 - Shots are 20-19 Penguins at the midway point of the game.

11:33 - NYI GOAL! Colin McDonald rushes up the ice and goes 14-hole on Zatkoff. Assisted by Casey Cizikas. 3-2 Penguins.

11:33 - McDonald goal comes about a minute after Brandon Sutter misses wide on a breakaway.

12:54 - NYI GOAL! The top line crashes the net and Vanek buries his second of the night! It's not pretty, but it looks great on the scoreboard. Score tied 3-3.

14:01 - NYI PP (Matt Niskanen - Two Minutes Delay of Game) Isles PP 0-3.

15:58 - NYI PP (Craig Adams - Two Minutes Slashing) Isles get two-man advantage for three seconds. Don't convert. PP 0-4, but get another chance right away.

END OF PERIOD: Score tied 3-3. Teams each have 25 shots. Poulin with some big saves at the end of the second.

3rd Period:
7:09 - No score so far in the third. Shots are 5-3 Isles.

12:48 - Less excitement, but lots of tension in the third period. 3-3 with seven minutes to play in regulation.

14:57 - Malkin goes in on a breakaway and Poulin makes a huge save! Closes his five-hole quickly on Malkin.

18:44 - PIT goal. Sidney Crosby is left alone in front and finishes a Pascal Dupuis feed from down low. 4-3 Penguins.

18:50 - NYI PP (Tanner Glass - Two Minutes Slashing) Isles PP 0-5.
