Live Updates - Islanders at Capitals

6:45 p.m. - Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum - Uniondale, NY

Islanders rolling same lines tonight as they did in Sunday's 3-0 win against Florida. Washington is tied with the Islanders in the standings with 31 points.

1st Period
5:24: Michael Grabner rips one home from the slot on a one-timer from Keith Aucoin...1-0 Isles on Grabs' 11th of the season. Great forecheck, and Aucoin steals the puck from John Carlson before finding Grabner wide open in the slot. Braden Holtby couldn't slide across fast enough.

7:56: Josh Bailey doubled the Islanders early lead. Pass under pressure from Frans Nielsen behind the Washington goal to Kyle Okposo on the left side, who found Bailey with room on the other side. Bailey stopped the puck and slapped one high past Holtby. 2-0 Islanders.

13:11: Icing called on the Islanders, following a really long Washington attack. Timeout Islanders. Capitals had a number of chances from the Ovechkin-Backstrom-Johansson line, including a shot off the post from Johansson.

13:52: Mark Streit going away for delay of game. He tried clearing the puck out of the defensive zone, but it hit nothing on its way over the glass. First power play of the night for either team.

15:52: Isles kill the penalty off. At least a couple blocked shots by defensemen during the PK.

End 1st: Nabokov with a big save on Brooks Laich with 20 seconds left, and we go to intermission 2-0 Islanders. Shots: NYI 7 WSH 9.

2nd Period
1:45: Nielsen gets called for hooking in the New York zone. That play could have been called either way, as he was tied up going to the ice. 2nd PP of the game for WSH.

3:45: Nielsen flies out of the box as the Isles are 2-for-2 against the league's top power play tonight. Caps couldn't get a ton of extended pressure at any point there.

6:03: Grabner draws a penalty after a breakaway chance. This one is going against Steve Oleksy for hooking. First man advantage opportunity of the evening for the road team.

8:03: Isles get nothing there, but Holtby made a huge side-to-side save, robbing Okposo toward the end of the PP.

10:05: Mike Ribeiro scores to draw Washington within one. 11th goal of the season for Ribs. Took a pass from the Troy Brouwer along the boards in the right circle, deftly stickhandled around an Islander while cutting toward the goal and quickly snapped one off. First shot of the period for the Caps.

13:28: Washington ties it 2-2 on John Carlson's one-timer from the right point. Nabokov was sliding left to right, and it got underneath him. 5th of the year for Carlson.

End 2nd: NYI 2 WSH 2. Shots: NYI 17 WSH 15.

3rd Period
5:48: Big kick save on Ovechkin's one-timer. Still 2-2.

9:17: Marty Reasoner draws an interference minor on Matt Hendricks, and that will send the Isles No. 1 road power play back to work. They're 0-for-1 tonight.

11:38: Right after Hendricks comes out, the referees return the favor, sending Okposo to the sin bin for holding. Caps are 0-for-2 on the power play.

13:38: Okposo is out of the box after Washington fails to record a shot during that man advantage. Still 2-2.

14:42: Tavares scores to give the Isles a 3-2 lead. 20th of the year for JT. Puck mishandled deep in the WSH zone by Mike Green, and Matt Moulson comes in, gets the puck and drops it back to Tavares, who one-timed it from the right faceoff dot over Holtby. 100th career assist for Moulson, who has 9 helpers in his last 9 games. Fun fact: Tavares scored his 100th career goal last week against Washington at the Coliseum.

18:22: Icing called on the Islanders. Still 3-2. Holtby comes out for the extra skater.
