Formerly known as the Vytra Cup, the Lighthouse Cup was adopted last year as part of the week-long Hockey Fest.
The winner of the game will win the Lighthouse Cup, which—like the Stanley Cup—features the names of past recipients.
Participants of both teams will receive two tickets to the Islanders-Capitals game played later in the day. During the second intermission of the Islanders game, the MVPs from each team will be recognized. Also, women participating in men’s varsity programs throughout Long Island will be the game's flag bearers.
The Lighthouse Cup will conclude with a banquet and college symposium at the Marriott. Among the speakers will be former Islanders forward Steve Webb.
Last year was the first annual Lighthouse Cup, with Suffolk reigning supreme by the score of 11-0. Playing in front of hundreds of family and friends at the Coliseum, Suffolk County put on a dominating performance, scoring eight goals in the second period to pull away from Nassau County. Nassau will look to even the series this morning.
The Lighthouse Cup is the culmination of Long Island Hockey Fest, presented by Modell’s. As a celebration of the Islanders' commitment to youth hockey on Long Island, more than 1,000 kids from ages 6-18 participated in a nine-day tournament. Click here
