Lee, Nelson and Kulemin Advance to Semis at Worlds

Anders Lee had two assists, as he, Brock Nelson and Team USA advanced to the IIHF World Championships semi-finals with an 3-1 win over Switzerland on Thursday. Team USA will play Nikolay Kulemin and Team Russia on Saturday.

Lee assisted on Charlie Coyle’s game-winner at 11:14 of the second period, as well as Jake Gardiner’s insurance marker at 10:33 of the third, as Team USA scored three unanswered goals for the win. Nashville Predators’ defenseman Roman Josi opened the scoring for Switzerland at 13:04 in the first period.

Kulemin, Russia Down Sweden 5-3
Nikolay Kulemin had two assists as Russia downed Sweden 5-3 in quarterfinal action on Thursday. With the win, Russia advances to the semi-finals and will play Anders Lee, Brock Nelson and Team USA.

Kulemin assisted on both of Evgeni Malkin's goals Thursday, including the game-winner in the final five minutes of the third period. Kulemin also assisted on Malkin's first goal to put Russia up 3-0 a minute into the second period. Sweden battled back tying the game 3-3 at 14:45 of the third, but Russia responded 26 seconds later and Vladimir Tarasenko later iced the game with an empty-netter.
