The Central Collegiate Hockey Association announced today that forward Anders Lee of Notre Dame has been named the CCHA Rookie of the Month for October.
Lee, who was drafted in the sixth round, 152nd overall by the New York Islanders in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, helped the Irish to a 5-1-1 overall record in October and a 3-0-1-1 mark in conference play while posting a team-leading six goals. The freshman forward, who registered at least one point in five of his first seven games, leads the CCHA in rookie scoring and ranks second on the Notre Dame roster with eight points. The Edina, Minn., native is tied for second in goals among all CCHA scorers and has propelled the Irish to a No. 11 ranking.
The 6-foot-3, 218-pound Irish rookie, who tied for the USHL lead in goals with 35 last season for the Green Bay Gamblers, scored on his first career shot and notched a hat trick in his first career game, a 6-3 victory over Holy Cross on Oct. 8. He posted an assist in his second career game in a loss to Boston University on Oct. 10 for a four-point weekend, which earned him CCHA Rookie of the Week honors for Oct. 11. Lee’s marker with just over five minutes remaining on Oct. 29 against Western Michigan broke a 2-2 deadlock and served as the game-winning goal. The next night, he scored Notre Dame’s first goal in an eventual shootout win as the Irish garnered five of a possible six points in the series.
