Kulemin To Play For Gold At Worlds

Nikolay Kulemin and Team Russia advanced to the gold medal game at the IIHF World Championships, after shutting out Brock Nelson, Anders Lee and Team USA 4-0 on Saturday afternoon.

Kulemin picked up one assist, as Russia broke out with a four-goal third period. Sergei Mozyakin broke the scoreless game 7:17 into the third period, while Alex Ovechkin (one goal, one assist) scored three minutes later. Kulemin assisted on Vadim Shipachyov’s goal at 15:28, while Evgeni Malkin scored an empty netter with 1:25 to play.

Kulemin has eight points (one goal, seven assists) in eight games. He’ll face off against Team Canada for the gold medal at 2:45 eastern time on NBCSN.

With the loss, Lee and Nelson will play the Czech Republic for the bronze medal at 10:45. Nelson has nine points (six goals, three assists) in nine games, while Lee has five points (one goal, four assists) in nine games.
