Junior Islanders Tryouts

by Staff Writer / New York Islanders

The New York Islanders are excited to announce tryout dates for the Junior Islanders team that will participate in the 2015 Quebec City International PeeWee Tournament in February. Tryouts will take place this summer at the Islanders’ practice facility, Islanders Iceworks in Syosset. There will be two, two-day sessions with the first taking place in June and the second taking place in August. Junior Islander hopefuls are highly encouraged to attend both sessions.

August 12th, 6:45 p.m.-8:15 p.m.
August 13th, 6:45 p.m.-8:15 p.m.

Any player who plays and/or lives in one of Long Island’s four counties and was born in 2002 or 2003 is eligible to tryout.

Those attending tryouts must bring a copy of their USA hockey registration, a copy of their birth certificate and a $90 tryout fee for each session.

Please arrive at least 45 minutes prior to the session to complete all required paperwork and to receive a tryout number.

Last season, a member of the 2014 Junior Islanders squad finished 12th in scoring out of 700 AAA players, with six points!

Past participants in the tournament have included current Islanders Kyle Okposo, Michael Grabner and Brian Strait. Islanders assistant coach Doug Weight also played in the tournament prior to his 19-year NHL career.

The Junior Islanders have represented Long Island at the Quebec City Tournament for more than a decade. If you’re a youth hockey player, you don’t want to miss this exciting opportunity!
