It's all about keeping up the intensity against a Flyers team that is in last place in the Eastern Conference. Here's my look at the keys to today's game, which can be seen on FSN NY at 1:00. Pre-game show starts at 12:30 pm.
1. Playoff Time
Ted Nolan and the players have been saying it for a while. Every game is a playoff game for the rest of the season. With five teams battling for the final two playoff spots, the Islanders can ill afford to lose games they should win. This is a game the Islanders should and need to win.
2. Put them away
The Islanders almost lost a crucial point to this Flyers team last game by letting them back in the contest. They're a young and hungry team with little to lose and will fight until the last minute. The Islanders found that out the hard way last game by letting the Flyers send it to overtime. If the Islanders are up by three or four goals they should continue to press for the next one.
3. Finding a groove
This is a perfect opportunity for the Blake and Smyth line to take it to the next level. A good game from this line will help propel them for future games. The same goes for Yashin, who we should see with Kozlov and Satan. With Ricky back in goal, if the offense gets going, the Islanders could be tough to stop down the stretch.
Catch Jaffe, Howie Rose and Deb Kaufman at 12:30 pm today on FSN NY for the Islanders pre-game show. You can watch the Islanders games on FSN NY and MSG Network all season long. Islanders telecasts are produced by Kevin Meininger and directed by Larry Roth.
