Catch the Islanders on FSN NY Tonight, Islanders at Tampa Bay: pre-game starts @ 7:00 pm

By Billy Jaffe

Tonight it's all about the Islanders and executing their game properly against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Here's my look at the keys to tonight's game, which can be seen on FSN NY at 7:30. Pre-game show starts at 7:00 pm.

1.  Better effort
You can't say it enough. The Islanders have to play like they want this. The effort has not been there on this trip. They need to come out hard and not stop on any shift.

2.  Stops and starts
One of the keys to closing the gaps on players with the puck is the stops and starts. The Islanders have to get their feet moving quicker.

3.  Attention to detail
I've said this in previous posts, but positioning is so important. Little things like, responsibilities in front of the net are being missed. The Islanders have to play a smarter game, especially against an aggressive Tampa team.

4.  Leaving a forward high
Part of the Islanders' responsibility will be to leave a forward high. The Lightning like to have a fourth man jump into the play and it's imperative that the Islanders not allow too many odd-man rushes against.

Catch Jaffe, Howie Rose and Deb Kaufman at 7:00 pm tonight on FSN NY for the Islanders pre-game show. You can watch the Islanders games on FSN NY and MSG Network all season long. Islanders telecasts are produced by Kevin Meininger and directed by Larry Roth.
