2015-16 Season: Brock Nelson followed up a 20-goal season in 2014-15 with 26 goals last season, finishing second on the Islanders in goals. The 24-year-old added 14 assists for 40 points in 81 games.

Nelson scored in bunches this season, including a four-game goal streak (5G, 3A) from Nov. 12-20 and his first career hat trick on Jan. 12 against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

In the playoffs Nelson added a goal and four assists in 11 games.

Over the summer, Nelson was one of three Islanders (along with Anders Lee and Nick Leddy) to play in Da Beauty League, a summer league for Minnesota-born NHLers. Nelson was a stud in Da Beauty League, scoring 14 points (7G, 7A) in four games. Nelson also had four points (1G, 3A) in six games at the IIHF World Championships with Team USA.

The Look Ahead: Brock Nelson is one of the top scoring threats on the Islanders, making him a key piece in the offense this season. He’s finished third and second in goals on the team in the last two years, scoring 20 and 26 respectively, and the Islanders need that type of goal-scoring from him going forward.

Nelson saw some action on the wing last season, but is a natural center and could see a more solidified role down the middle with the Islanders changes this offseason. At 25, there’s still room to grow for the Islanders young gun.
