2015-16 Season: The 2015-16 season looked like Adam Pelech’s big career break, but instead his career was put in jeopardy, due to a health scare. The Islanders defenseman came down with a case of thoracic outlet syndrome - a blood clot condition in the upper arms - causing him to miss over 30 games.

Sandwiching his injury, Pelech played nine games for the Islanders - seven before, two after - recording a pair of assists, averaging 17:34 TOI. Pelech’s shining moment was a two-assist game in a win against the New York Rangers. The 22 year old had seven points (2G, 5A) in 27 games with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers as well.

The Look Ahead: With Scott Mayfield signing a one-way contract and Ryan Pulock sticking with the Islanders down the stretch and in the playoffs, Pelech has competition to make the Islanders out of camp. And even if he does make the team, getting regular minutes is another challenge, given the Islanders crowded defensive corps.

But when he did play, Pelech looked poised, which is all that can be asked of a rookie defenseman making his big-league. He showed the Islanders he was up to the challenge and he was the first call up from Bridgeport last season, so the American League staff also thinks highly of him. At this point, Pelech just needs to focus on himself, play his game and build off the big step he took last season.
