Roy Boe, who was the original owner of the Islanders, has died. He was 79.
“On behalf of the New York Islanders organization we would like to extend our sincere condolences to the entire Boe family,” said Islanders owner Charles Wang. “It was Roy Boe’s vision that enabled Long Island to become home of an NHL franchise and create a rich hockey history here.”
Boe owned the Islanders from 1972 until 1978. He also owned the New York Nets of the American Basketball Association and an AHL team in Worcester, Mass. He later owned the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, which he sold to Wang in 2005.
