The Islanders and their four partners will activate this initiative through a variety of programs. Fans can learn more about the social effort to create a greener Long Island by visiting the official “Goal Green” website at www.newyorkislanders.com/goalgreen
In addition, the Islanders and their partners have created a series of public service announcements that will run during Islanders home games throughout the season.
“The PSA’s will encourage our fans to take part in our “Goal Green” initiative,” said Islanders President Chris Dey. “Our goal is to not only include our fans directly, but also monitor our entire “Goal Green” effort through a social commitment network. The stand-alone website allows fans to pledge personal Green commitments, such as saving water or using less electricity each day. This will let us actually calculate the net effect we are having on our local environment through our fans, our partners and all of their respective employees. We applaud our presenting sponsors for blazing a new trail for this unprecedented social green initiative.”
As added incentive, the first 100 cars that arrive with four or more people on select “Goal Green” Carpooling Nights, will receive free parking at the Coliseum. The remaining Carpooling Night are March 25 and April 11.
“LIPA has set a lofty goal to become a leader among the nation’s public utilities in the areas of energy efficiency and clean energy,” said LIPA President and CEO Kevin S. Law. “We are proud of our commitment, and with a partner like the New York Islanders, we have a unique opportunity to educate Long Islanders on how energy efficiency saves customers money while simultaneously helping the environment.” Click here
