Thursday's New York Islanders-Washington Capitals game has been postponed, part of the National Hockey League's holiday break
 from Dec. 22-25
.
The Islanders-Capitals game is the fourth Isles game to be postponed this season. The Islanders-Rangers game on Nov. 28 and Islanders-Flyers game on Nov. 30 were both postponed after COVID outbreaks caused the Isles' facilities to shutter for three days. Monday's Islanders-Canadiens game was postponed after the NHL put a pause on
cross-border games on Sunday night
. Only the Islanders-Rangers game has been officially rescheduled,
set to play on March 17
.

The Islanders are scheduled to resume playing on Dec. 27 when they travel to Buffalo to take on the Sabres. NHL facilities will re-open on Dec. 26 at 2 p.m.
Per the NHL and NHLPA: Players will report back to their Clubs on Dec. 26, which shall be used for testing, practice and/or travel only. Upon return from the Holiday Break to team facilities, no individual in the team's Traveling Party shall enter the facility (other than for testing purposes) until they have a negative test result. Any practice scheduled for Dec. 26 must begin after 2:00 p.m. local time.
In total, 49 games have been postponed throughout the NHL this season.
