Johnny Boychuk had dealt with a nagging injury since the start of the 2017-18 season and now that the New York Islanders season is over, the defenseman will undergo a procedure to fix it.
Boychuk didn't reveal what his injury was, but said that surgery was scheduled for Monday and that he expects to be 100% in June. The 34-year-old said he had played through it during the season and would have continued to do so had the Isles made the playoffs.

"Since the beginning of the year it's been around and I'm happy that I'm going to get it fixed and get back to normal," Boychuk said during his clean out day interview. "I wanted to try to play until I needed to get it done and tomorrow is the day to do it."
Boychuk finished the season with 18 points (6G, 12A) in 58 games.
