ISLES ALUM STOP AT SCHOOL TO TALK TEAMWORK

by Staff Writer / New York Islanders

After their first stop of the day at William Buck Elementary School, Islanders alumni Eric Cairns and Steve Webb made their way around the corner to another school in Valley Stream, Robert W. Carbonaro Elementary.  Over 450 students packed the gym as they got ready to listen to the former Islanders, along with Monica the Ice Girl and Sparky, talk about the importance of teamwork.  Steve and Eric explained to the children that the New York Islander hockey organization is run just like a school.  The principal of the school is just like Garth Snow, the General Manager of the team.  The school nurse is the same as Garrett Timms, the head trainer for the Islanders.  The teachers are all like coach Nolan, helping the players reach the highest level they can.  This made the students realize that they are just like the players on the ice, and that just as the players have to overcome differences such as language barriers to be a winning team, the students must also unite and work together if they want to be able to solve any problems they may face.  With their message spread, Webby, Cairns, Monica, and Sparky all said goodbye to the students, but not before leaving them with a little extra surprise.  Each student got a great Islander gift bag when they returned to class.
