The 2006-2007 season was the start of a new era in a lot of different ways for the New York Islanders, including media coverage. The year marked the start of a new and exclusive way for fans to follow the team with the debut of Islanders TV. In case you've missed it, Islanders TV is the 24-hour online network devoted solely to the New York Islanders, which you can watch right here at www.newyorkislanders.com. It's free of charge and gives you unprecedented access to the Isles, like no other service in all of sports.
No hockey team has ever been chronicled like the Islanders were through Islanders TV during the past season. With video footage of every practice, pre and post-game reaction, and archived game broadcasts, ITV was the #1 source for Islanders fans from training camp to the final break-up day at the Coliseum.
Now, during the off-season, don't think for a second that Islanders TV is headed into summer "hibernation." New shows are being added daily and the best is yet to come. Here is a little Islanders TV summer preview:
Islanders Prospects Camp: Later this month, the ITV crew will have footage of every moment of the annual gathering of the Isles' best young talent. Get ready for a look into the future like never before.
Looking Back/Looking Forward: This series began right after the final game in Buffalo and will continue throughout the off-season. Each player gives his thoughts on the past year, while also revealing his plans for the summer and beyond.
Frozen in Time: Islanders TV has dipped into the NHL's video archives and gained access to some of the greatest games in team history. Coming soon will be the Islanders' fourth Cup-clinching game from 1983 against the Edmonton Oilers. More classics will be added every week during the summer.
Hockey Hall of Fame Tour: Islanders TV is working on sending their crew up to Toronto for a tour of some of the great exhibits and features at the Hall of Fame. But the real highlight might end up being your tour guide – Islanders defenseman and ITV favorite Bruno Gervais.
Shakin' it up with Shakey: Assistant Equipment Manager and Islanders TV superstar Richard "Shakey" Krouse will have plenty to share with you this summer. He's already been to Las Vegas, been sprayed by Rick DiPietro
with a fire extinguisher, and declared he was "going to Sizzler" after the Isles' playoff clincher over New Jersey. Look for another classic episode soon from "Shakey".
Top 10 Moments of 2006-2007: Starting on June 18th, Islanders TV will count down the best moments from the past season, with a new edition each weekday.
Legends: The one-on-one interviews with Islander greats have already included sit-downs with Bobby Nystrom, Bryan Trottier, Ken Morrow, and Jiggs McDonald. Look for conversations with Mike Bossy and Clark Gillies this summer.
New Islanders TV Commercial: Before you see it on your television, get a sneak preview of the highly anticipated Islanders commercial which will feature supermodel Christie Brinkley.
Ice Girls Beach Challenge: You won't want to miss the first annual competition, which will feature a battle at Jones Beach between two teams of the Islanders Ice Girls in various games. Also, in another show, two of the ladies will take a trip to Las Vegas and bring along Islanders TV viewers for all the fun!
Get ready for these programs plus a lot more during those long summer months to cure your Islanders cravings. One of the best things about this 24-hour Islanders network is that YOU might have the next idea for a show. While you're watching, click on the "Forums" feature and post your suggestions on the Islanders TV Fan Forum if there's a show or classic game you want to see. So far, Isles fans have watched over 600,000 videos and 17,000 hours of content.
Islanders VP of Communications Josh Bernstein has overseen the creation and expansion of this phenomenon:
"In the summer of 2006, Islanders TV was just an exciting idea. In the summer of 2007, Islanders TV is on the air, 24 hours a day, and setting the pace for what is a progressive trend of sports franchises and leagues starting their own internet television networks.
"Year one was a resounding success and year two is already underway. We will continue to come up with new and exciting ways to give Islanders fans the kind of coverage they crave and deserve, starting in the off-season and carrying all the way through the playoffs. We've received nothing but excellent feedback from our viewers and that is our number one goal – satisfying the Islanders fans' thirst for everything Islanders."
This off-season will certainly be an eventful one for the Isles, and Islanders TV is the place for exclusive access to your favorite team. Stay tuned this summer!
