The New York Islanders announced today that Dustin Kohn has been placed on waivers, Robin Figren, Kevin Poulin
, Anton Klementyev and Tony Romano
have been assigned to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the American Hockey League (AHL). Joel Martin has been released from his professional tryout.
Kohn, 23, made his NHL debut with the Islanders last season, recording four assists in 22 games. The Edmonton, AB, native also added two goals and 15 assists in 45 AHL games with Bridgeport. The 5-11, 188 lbs. forward from Stockholm, SE, suffered a foot injury during the Islanders rookie game against the Boston Bruins, which kept him out of the lineup for the Islanders’ remaining pre-season games.
Klementyev, 20, will return to Bridgeport for his second professional season with the Sound Tigers. In 2009-10, he scored one goal and added two assists in 28 AHL games. The 6-1, 198 lbs. defenseman from Togliatti, RU, also made his NHL debut last season, skating in one game with the Islanders.
Poulin, 20, is set to begin his first season of professional hockey after completing a four-year junior career with the Victoriaville Tigers of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. Last season, the 6-2, 211 lbs. goaltender posted career bests in games played (54), Shutouts (7), GAA (2.63), save percentage (.916) and wins (35).
Romano, 22, split last season between Bridgeport and the East Coast Hockey League’s (ECHL) Utah Grizzlies and Toledo Walleye. The 5-10, 177 lbs. forward from Smithtown, NY, scored two points (one goal, one assist) in 21 games with the Sound Tigers and combined for 36 points (15 goals, 21 assists) in 46 ECHL games.
Martin, a member of the Islanders’ Central Hockey League affiliate, the Odessa Jackalopes, finished the 2009-10 season with a 27-6-2 record. The 6-1, 185 lbs. goaltender from Fort Worth, TX, will attend Bridgeport Sound Tigers training camp.
