Islanders To Host Blood Drive on April 13

by Staff Writer / New York Islanders

Before the puck drops on Saturday, Apr. 13, 2013 the New York Islanders hockey club and the American Red Cross will again partner for a blood drive to continue their lifesaving commitment. The blood drive will take place at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. As a special thank you, all presenting donors will receive a voucher for two free tickets to a future Islanders regular season home game during the 2013-14 season.*

The arrival of spring brings with it the feeling of renewal, hope and fresh possibilities. The Red Cross is asking all eligible donors to share this feeling of renewal and hope with others by donating blood. Local blood donors are needed all year round to ensure the blood supply stays strong. Blood is an essential component for patient care in area hospitals, and the only source of blood is a healthy, volunteer blood donor.

“The Red Cross hopes Islanders fans will come out and roll up their sleeves to help those in need of blood. You never know when someone, even your own family member or loved one, may need blood,” said Donna M. Morrissey, Director of Communications, Red Cross Northeast Division. “This simple, heart-felt act may help save the life of a real person in your community.”

“The support from Islanders fans each year at the blood drives is amazing,” Mike Bossy, Islanders VP of Corporate Partnerships and Partnership Marketing, said. “As we head into the spring and summer seasons, we’re reminded of the importance that the Red Cross had during times of crisis such as Hurricane Sandy. Along with our fans and staff, we look forward to helping raise the blood supplies and continue to support the American Red Cross.”

The Red Cross blood drive will take place in the Lower Box Office of the Coliseum. Walk-ins are always welcome, but donors are encouraged to schedule an appointment in advance by calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or by visiting All presenting donors will also receive a voucher for one free entrée from Moe’s Southwest Grill and have the opportunity to enter to win many great prizes including one of (3) pairs of tickets to the April 13 Islanders home game against the New York Rangers and a Hockey Getaway Package which includes two Islanders game tickets to future 2013-14 regular season home game, overnight accommodations and breakfast for two at the Long Island Marriott.*
