The New York Islanders two-game winning streak was snapped on Sunday, as the Isles fell 6-2 to the Dallas Stars at Barclays Center.
Anthony Beauvillier scored his fourth goal in two games and Scott Mayfield netted his third of the season, but those were the lone bright spots of Sunday's contest. A 1-0 Islanders lead evaporated in a five-minute span of the second period, as the Stars used three quick strikes to take control of the game.
"The game went south in probably the first six or seven minutes of the second period," Head Coach Barry Trotz said. "We lost the game in the second period, plain and simple."
Alex Radulov (2G, 1A) and Esa Lindell each scored a pair of goals for the Stars, while Tyler Seguin (1G, 2A) and Jamie Benn (3A) each had three-point games.

BEAUVILLIER SCORES FOURTH GOAL IN TWO GAMES:

Anthony Beauvillier said he felt like he had the swagger back in his game after his hat trick on Thursday night. The feeling and scoring touch carried over to Sunday, as Beauvillier lit the lamp again for his fourth goal in as many periods.
Beauvillier was the cleanup man on the Isles icebreaker. Leo Komarov scooped up the rebound off Ryan Pulock's 100 mph bruiser and made a nifty, no-look feed to Beauvillier at 3:36. With the assist, Komarov has points in three straight games.

SECOND PERIOD SINKS ISLES:

The Islanders took a 1-0 lead into the second period, but Dallas answered back with three goals in a five-minute span to flip the complexion of Sunday's game. Esa Lindell scored two goals in the blitz, sandwiching Roope Hintz's first-career tally.
It happened early and it happened fast, as Lindell beat Greiss from the slot for his first of the game at 2:09. Hintz got a snap shot off from the left dot at 4:40 and Lindell's second made it 3-1 at 7:08. Lindell's second goal ended Thomas Greiss' (16 saves) night as Robin Lehner (11 saves) came in relief of the Isles goaltender. Trotz made it clear he did not pin Sunday's loss on his netminders.
"That wasn't our best effort and our battle level wasn't as high as it needed to be," Mayfield said. "We got beat to pucks and lost a lot of those battles down low and they capitalized on their opportunities. We have to play better than that."
The goalie change did little to swing the momentum of the period, as the Isles were immediately forced to kill a Thomas Hickey double-minor. The shorthanded unit came through, but Tyler Seguin extended the lead to 4-1, as an Alex Radulov shot deflected off the end boards to the Stars sniper on the far side at 14:07.
Trotz said unforced errors and a lack of battle level were responsible for the second period slip up.
"Our battle level came down," Trotz said. "A couple guys tried to go around the game, not through the game and you can't do that in this league and I thought some guys got pushed out of the game. That's not good enough. We were really easy to play against tonight. We weren't hard enough to play against tonight. That's not us."

ISLES CAN'T MOUNT THIRD PERIOD COMEBACK:

The Islanders teased a possible comeback to start the third, as Scott Mayfield beat Ben Bishop (37 saves) with a shot from below the goal line 24 seconds into the period. Cal Clutterbuck rang a shot off the post on an Islanders power play shortly after, but that's as close as the Islanders came.
Alex Radulov scored a pair of goals 1:41 apart to make it 6-2, effectively icing the game by the midway mark of the period. Mayfield said the first Radulov goal - a breakaway that started with a bad bounce off the glass - wound up flustering the Isles at the start of their comeback bid.
"We wanted to come out and chip away at the little hole we put ourselves in," Mayfield said. "We can't get flustered over that and I think we kind of did and we lost a bit of the momentum we got at the start of the third."

NOTES:

Luca Sbisa played in his 500th career game on Sunday, while Scott Mayfield played in his 100th. Michael Dal Colle made his season debut. The Islanders recorded a season-high 39 shots.
