Varlamov-1920

The New York Islanders have signed goaltender Semyon Varlamov to a four-year contract.

Varlamov, 35, appeared in 23 games in 2022-23 during his fourth season with the Islanders. The Samara, RUS, native posted a 2.70 goals-against average and a .913 save percentage with eleven wins.

The Washington Capitals selected Varlamov in the first round (23rd overall) of the 2006 NHL Draft. In 583 career games over 15 seasons with the Capitals, Colorado Avalanche and the Islanders, Varlamov has a 272-220-64 record with 38 shutouts, a 2.65 goals-against average and a .916 save percentage. He's also appeared in 80 Stanley Cup Playoff games, posting a 31-27 record with a 2.42 goals-against average and a .919 save percentage.

In 135 career games with the Islanders, Varlamov has a 59-51-14 record. He's also played 34 playoff games with the Islanders, twice leading the club to the Conference Final. Varlamov's 18 playoff wins with the Islanders are second in franchise history behind Billy Smith.

Varlamov was the runner-up for the Vezina Trophy as best goalie in the NHL and finished fourth in Hart Trophy voting for NHL MVP in 2013-14, when he went 41-14-6 with a 2.41 GAA, a .927 save percentage and two shutouts for Colorado.
