The New York Islanders announced today that defenseman Kevin Czuczman has agreed to a two-year, entry-level contract. Czuczman will report directly to the Islanders.
Czuczman, 23, posted career highs in goals (10) and points (21) in 36 games as a junior at Lake Superior State University. The Port Elgin, ON, native’s 10 goals led all Western Collegiate Hockey Association defensemen. He also led all Lakers defensemen in points, ranking fourth overall on the team, and led the club in penalty minutes (73).
In 114 career games with the Lakers, the 6’3, 205 lbs. defenseman totaled 14 goals and 31 assists for 45 points. He was named LSSU’s most-valuable defenseman in 2012-13 and was named the team’s Outstanding Freshman in 2011-12.
Prior to his collegiate career, Czuczman played with the Newmarket Hurricanes of the Ontario Junior Hockey League.
