Sharks host Islanders

(10:30 p.m. ET, TV: FSNY | Radio: Bloomberg 1130) The Islanders look to capture the season's first victory tonight as they take on San Jose in the Shark Tank. The Islanders hold the all-time series advantage with a record of 11-9-3. These teams last met on April 11, 2004 when the Sharks won by the score of 5-4 at home.

Joel Bouchard was cleared to play and might dress tonight after nursing a hamstring string injury that held him out of the entire preseason.

The Sharks played in their season opener yesterday, topping the St. Louis Blues 5-4 on Curtis Brown's overtime tally. Joe Thornton picked up where he left off last year after earning the Art Ross and Hart Trophies by compiling three assists in last night's game.

San Jose's game included a couple of extended delays. Referee Rob Martell had to leave the ice after being struck in the left eye by a puck and Jonathan Cheechoo created a gaping hole in one of the boards as he slid in to them skates first.

The Sharks have two rookies on their roster: Marc-Edouard Vlasic and Matt Carle, who won the Hobey Baker Award last year while playing for the University of Denver.
