Islanders Prospect Report

by Dawn King / New York Islanders

Michael Dal Colle... Still Hot

Michael Dal Colle continues to be one of the hottest players in the OHL in 2016 after racking up another huge week for Kingston. Dal Colle’s six-point week (3G, 3A) helped the Eastern Conference leading Kingston Frontenacs go a perfect 3-0. The Islanders’ 2014 first-rounder tallied a goal in each of the Frontenacs three games this week, including a three-point outing (1G, 2A) plus the shootout winner in the 6-5 win over the Barrie Colts. The Woodbridge, ON native now has 20-points (10G, 10A) in 10 games with Kingston.

Since being traded from the Oshawa Generals on New Year’s Day, Dal Colle has recorded at least one point in all but one game for Kingston.

Wotherspoon Producing Points From Blueline

Defenseman Parker Wotherspoon was good for three-points (3A) last week with the Western Hockey League’s Tri-City Americans. He notched an assist in the Americans’ 4-2 loss to the Kelowna Rockets on Saturday and added two more helpers in Sunday’s 4-3 loss to the Portland Winterhawks. Wotherspoon leads all Tri City blueliners with 42 points (8G, 34A) and he ranks fifth among all WHL defensemen in assists.

Sound Tigers Stop Skid With OT Winner

Bridgeport: 20-19-2-1, (43 points), 6th in Atlantic Division, 11th in Eastern Conference

Taylor Beck scored with 20 seconds left in overtime to give the Sound Tigers a 3-2 win over the St. Johns IceCaps, ending their six-game losing skid.  Wednesday’s OT win proved to be the only game for the Sound Tigers this week after both Saturday and Sunday’s games were postponed due to weather. Bridgeport will try for a second straight win as they face Springfield on Wednesday.

Mavericks Stay Atop the ECHL

Missouri: 31-5-1-1, (64 points), 1st in Central Division, 1st in Western Conference, 1st in the ECHL

The Missouri Mavericks spilt a back-to-back weekend match up with division rival, Tulsa Oilers. The Mavs took Friday’s game 2-1 to earn their 14th straight home win. Leading scorer, Jesse Root had both Missouri goals. However, the Mavericks fell 6-3 on Saturday in their first home loss of the season.

Missouri is back in action on Tuesday as they take on the Evansville IceMen.
