Schempp Leads Ferris State

Kyle Schempp is driving the bus offensively for the Ferris State Bulldogs, as the Islanders 2014 sixth-round pick, leads the team with seven points (2G, 5A) in six games this season. Schempp is currently on a tear, with six points (1G, 5A) in his last three games.

Schempp scored a goal and an assist over the #16-ranked Michigan Tech Huskies on October 17, a career-high three assists in a 5-5 tie with Wisconsin on Friday night and finished the weekend with an assist in Ferris State’s 2-1 win over the Badgers Saturday. The Bulldogs captain also won 31-of-58 faceoffs over the weekend.

Bridgeport Continues Strong Start

Bridgeport: 6-2-0, 12 pts., 1st in Atlantic Division, 1st in Eastern Conference

The Bridgeport Sound Tigers remain at the top of the American Hockey League standings after a weekend split with the St. John’s IceCaps, affiliate of the Montreal Canadiens. The Sound Tigers dropped Saturday night’s match by a score of 5-4, but responded with a 3-2 shootout win on Sunday afternoon. The series proved to be a good test for the Sound Tigers as the IceCaps currently lead the North Division in points.

Sunday’s win came in dramatic fashion, as Connor Jones scored in the ninth round of the shootout to give the Sound Tigers the win. Christopher Gibson recorded his third victory of the season, as he made 25 saves for Bridgeport in the game.

The Sound Tigers offense was led by the team’s two top scorers, Joe Whitney and Bracken Kearns. Whitney had two goals and two assists in the pair of games, bringing his season total up to eleven points in eight games. Kearns offensive totals are up to nine points in eight games, after  notching two goals and an assist against the IceCaps. The Sound Tigers have scored 31 goals, more than any other AHL team.
