Dal Colle’s Four-Point Weekend Helps Generals Cruise

Michael Dal Colle and the first place Oshawa Generals kept rolling this weekend, taking two out three games. After dropping a 2-1 decision to the Ottawa 67’s on Friday night, Oshawa went on a tear, outscoring their next two opponents 15-2. On Saturday, Dal Colle chipped in a goal and an assist in the Generals’ 6-1 win over the Mississauga Steelheads. On Sunday, Dal Colle scored the ninth General goal and added an assist in a 9-1 win over the Kingston Frontenacs. The Richmond Hill, Ontario native now has 91 points (40 goals, 51 assists) in 54 games played. The New York Islanders selected Dal Colle fifth overall in the 2014 NHL Draft.   

Toews, #11 Quinnipiac Advance to ECAC Semifinals

Devon Toews and the 11th ranked Quinnipiac Bobcats bested the Union Dutchmen in a best-of-three conference tournament series. Toews had two assists in a 4-3 triple-OT win for the Bobcats, including a helper on the game-tying goal with 37 seconds to play. Union evened the series Saturday, downing the Bobcats 3-2 despite Toews’ team-high five shots and plus-two rating. Quinnipiac regrouped on Sunday and downed Union 3-1 to advance to the ECAC Hockey Semifinals on March 20th against Harvard. The Islanders selected Toews in the fourth round (108th overall) in the 2014 NHL Draft.

Bridgeport Sound Tigers:  22-32-6-1, 5th in Northeast Division, 15th in Eastern Conference

The Bridgeport Sound Tigers dropped all three games of their three-game homestand this weekend.  The Worcester Sharks were first to visit Webster Bank Arena, downing the Sound Tigers 5-1. Harry Zolnierczyk scored the lone Sound Tiger goal. Alan Quine scored twice to give the Sound Tigers a 2-0 lead over the Lehigh Valley Phantoms on Saturday, but the Phantoms stormed back, rattling off four straight goals for the 4-2 comeback win. The Sound Tigers concluded the weekend with a 2-0 loss to the Syracuse Crunch. Kent Simpson stopped 24-of-26 in the final dance of the weekend.

Stockton Thunder: 18-44-1, 7th in Pacific Division, 14th in Western Conference

The Stockton Thunder hosted the Idaho Steelheads for three games over the weekend, coming away with one victory and two losses. Stockton forward Tyler Shattock scored four times during the series including a game-winning, buzzer beater with 0.5 seconds left on the clock in a 2-1 Thunder win on Saturday night. On Friday night, Shattock and Jack Combs scored, but Stockton fell 4-2. Shattock, a Salmon Arm, BC native, potted two goals Sunday, but the Thunder fell 4-3.
